Hey Jean, hey Daniel, (ladies first, you know)

I just rushed in *before* you (supposedly) record the next episode so you don’t complain about having no mails or comments on the last episode.

First of all: love the show. Keep going like this! And don’t worry about learning curves … Maths is stupid anyway!

I did, however, feel compelled to answer some open questions from episode 11:

    1. You’re not uncritable in tank gear in PvP.

NPC mobs have a 5% crit chance against enemies of the same level. That said, bosses are always 3 levels above you, raising the chance to critically hit you as a level 80 by 0.2% per level. That’s why, as a tank, you need 5.6% crit-negation (or whatever you want to call it), hence the 540 def.
Now, that means that with 540 def the players in PvP will have a 5.6% smaller chance to critically hit you. So unless they have less of a chance to crit via their talents and gear, you can and will be critted.

    2. With ‘Glyph of Evocation’, the spell Evocation proofs to be very useful to use while in combat.

Once you are low on health, try to get away from your adversaries (e.g. via Frost Nova) or simply activate either your Mana Shield, Frost Barrier (whichever is available) or ‘Icy Veins’ (available to frost mages at level 20) and use Evocation – now hardly or not at all interrupted by the attacking foes – to refill both your mana *and* your health.
This way, you get “a fresh start” while your enemies are already wounded.

If you are Herbalist, the combination of Lifebloom plus Ice Block is also very effective, because, in this scenario, the mobs can’t prevent you from getting back your health.

    3. Spirit will not help you with your in-combat mana regeneration per se.

You need talents (like ‘Meditation’) or abilities (like ‘Mage Armor’) that allow you to regen a certain percentage of mana while in combat. Without any of those talents or abilities, you will not regen any mana in combat no matter how high your spirit is.
You can, however, regen mana while in combat by casting no spells at all for 5 seconds. Casting nothing for 5 seconds triggers the out-of-combat mana regeneration (even while fighting). But this is probably not the best thing to do when you are oom being attacked by 10 mobs.

    4. Here’s my limerick for mage water conjuring (probably not all that good):

    In Dalaran city the mages
Have known about this thing for ages
    “Conjuring is splendor
    but 10s go to vendor”
That’s what you will learn from the sages.

That’s all I got for now.

All the best to both of you, your dogs and the show,

    Bartol

P.S.: Tirion Fordring is the only paladin who needs to press only one button: the ‘I.W.I.N. Button’ from Alterac Valley.

    Damnit, made a mistake.

So, here’s the limerick again, this time right:

    In Dalaran city the mages
Have known about this thing for ages:
    “Conjuring is splendor
    But 5s go to vendor.”
That’s what you will learn from the sages.

Loving the podcast… each and every episode.

Noob School question – what are the magical 2 buttons that a paladin must use? I have a baby paladin hangin’ out in Undercity doing pretty much nothing.

Old Man question – How did you manage to have 2 funny and cool sons (that I know of so far)? Can’t wait to have some fun once we’re all in Catechism together :-)

p.s. Jean – your daughter is beautiful… just like her mother. I can only hope she’s just as sweet as you are.
